1394: Amulets, Witchery, and A Happy Norooz to You All

This past Friday was Persian New Year, Norooz, which means vast amounts of delicious foods have been painstaking prepared by households in every metaphorical-corner of this spherical-globe, the first day of Spring has come (and gone), and a solar-calendar New Year has passed.
I love my New Year, even though the celebrations for it here in Vancouver are VASTLY diluted echoes of the colourful mayhem that occurs for Norooz in Iran. There, It is closer in feeling to what much of the world feels when celebrating Christmas, and very very heartwarming. Family and community are at the core of the celebrations, and this creates the warmest energy to share in as a country, because everybody gets to celebrate New Years, you know? Which makes Persian New Years parties the funnest parties.
In terms of Season's, though, Persian New Years is calculated to fall on the exact moment of Spring Equinox. Regardless of the  beliefs you personally follow, we can all obviously agree upon the fact that bleep that goes on down the EXACT bleeping moment of Spring Equinox, is some pretty cool bleep. And so, I give you this video clip: my newest series and my take on Nazar- 'Evil Eye' pendants, which my mother and I cast protection over with Espand. All during the EXACT moment of Spring Equinox, while they lay atop our Book of Hafiz, amidst her beautiful  Norooz Haft-Seen table setting. There are only 6 pieces of this specific set, and let me tell you, it doesn't get anymore powerful on the protective-amulet front than that.

Happy 1394, to You All, Lovely People,

The sound of Espand and crackling is, to this day, one of my favourite sounds in the whole world.
